The Challenge

Grace Bible Church partnered with WTLR to launch a regional youth-focused Christian event that felt exciting, modern, and memorable enough to bring multiple youth groups together under one experience.

The goal was to create:

  • A recognizable event identity that could grow year after year

  • Marketing visuals capable of attracting students and youth groups

  • A system flexible enough to adapt to new artists, speakers, and event rollouts annually

  • An atmosphere that felt energetic, electric, and culturally relevant without losing the core message behind the event

We approached Surge more like a modern music event than a traditional church conference.

The visual direction was intentionally bold, loud, and electric. Highlighter-inspired color palettes, oversized typography, motion-inspired layouts, and layered textures were all used to create a sense of energy and momentum around the event.

To explore the direction fully, we developed two separate brand systems:

  • A bright electric blue direction

  • A high-voltage yellow direction

Both concepts were designed to feel youthful, energetic, and visually disruptive in a way that would stand out both online and in physical environments.

The final selected direction became the now-recognizable blue identity system used across the conference rollout.

Our Solution

The final brand system created a cohesive visual identity that could scale across multiple years, artists, and promotional campaigns.

Deliverables included:

  • Event branding and logo system

  • Poster and promotional campaign design

  • Merchandise concepts

  • Social media assets

  • Scalable typography and color systems

  • Flexible layouts for future artist integrations and yearly updates

The system was first launched with Christian artist Pat Barrett headlining the event, followed by Katy Nichole the following year as the conference continued to grow.

The Outcome

Surge quickly established a recognizable visual identity that helped position the event as more than just another local church gathering.

The energetic branding helped support:

  • Increased recognition year over year

  • A more modern and engaging presence for younger audiences

  • Stronger event promotion across digital and physical spaces

  • A scalable identity system capable of growing alongside the conference itself

What began as a new regional youth event has continued growing into an established annual experience with a recognizable identity behind it.
